The safety of workers and visibility of assets in hazardous areas is not up to animals: Wirepas and Extronics team up for intrinsically safe IoT to improve safety and increase productivity
The safety of workers and visibility of assets in hazardous environments is not up to Canary Birds anymore. We’ve got something more comprehensive and animal-friendly. Wirepas, a very very good IoT company, teams with Extronics precisely for that. Extronics introduces a new connectivity option for intrinsically safe IoT. This partnership broadens Wirepas’ harsh environment ecosystem with a company specializing in IoT for hazardous environments and potentially explosive atmospheres.
The partnership starts with a product line of four products: A personnel badge tag, a tag for assets, and a location anchor, which form the basis of an easy-to-deploy battery-powered Real Time Location System (RTLS). The solution is complemented by a Wirepas Mesh enabled Extronics gateway, and all products come with an ultra-rugged design suitable for a range of harsh and hazardous areas. The whole solution is easy to install with the tags and anchors boasting up to 5 years of battery life. Additionally, all products come with a wide variety of explosive atmosphere certifications such as ATEX, IECEx and NEC500/NEC505
“The Process Industries are firmly on the path to digitalizing. The deployment of wireless connectivity, mobile devices and IoT sensors is growing rapidly as the leaders of this industry sector realize the benefits lead to a safer and more profitable business. We have invested in developing a Wirepas Mesh-powered RTLS solution for hazardous areas for these reasons as it offers customers a low-cost RTLS solution. This technology enables Extronics to support use cases where the costs of other RTLS technologies are prohibitive.” John Hartley, CEO of Extronics
“We are very excited about Extronics joining the Wirepas ecosystem. Their intrinsically safe IoT offering with Wirepas Mesh has been long awaited and requested by our other partners and end customers. Together, Extronics and Wirepas solve the pressing problem of expensive wired solutions by offering a fully battery-operated asset tracking solution”, says Oula Välipakka, Head of Partner Growth at Wirepas
